Gray Wolf Recovery
Weekly Progress Report

January 16, 1996

Monitoring

The second phase of the reintroduction project is underway at this moment in Canada. The work began at the beginning of the year with a couple members of the team doing preliminary work. The rest of the team joined them this week near Fort St. John in northeast British Columbia.

The weather has been cold, ranging between -20 and -40 degrees Fahrenheit, but it is fairly clear. By the end of this day, four wolves have been captured, including three males and one female. The wolves seem to be in good health and are all young at approximately two to four years of age.

The weekly wolf report can now be viewed at the Service's Region 6 web site at www.r6.fws.gov/wolf.
