"Discovering Yellowstones Wolves: Watcher's Guide" is a book
published this month by A Naturalist's World in collaboration
with the Yellowstone Center for Resources; Yellowstone National
Park. This book by vetern wolf trackers, James C. Halfpenny, Ph D.
and Diann Thompson, B.S.N. provides a great deal of informa-
tion on the 1995 and 1996 wolves introduced and born in the
Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. There are numerous color photographs of the wolves (do you wonder
what R9F looks like, for example?), facts on each pack, informa-
tion on how to tell the wolves apart (and wolves from the Park's
numerous coyotes), where to locate the wolves, and much more. This book will fit well with the information provided on this
web page.The book can be ordered from: A Naturalist's World; PO Box 989;
Gardiner, Montana 59030. The cost is $9.95 + $2.05 postage and
handling -- $12. It will also be available in book outlets in
Yellowstone National Park and many nearby communities.I should note that a number of other books on the wolves and the
reintroduction are in the works. I will announce them from time-
to-time.One book, "Wolf Wars", by Hank Fischer of Defenders of Wildlife
has been out for about 9 months. It is available from Falcon
Press in Helena, Montana. "Wolf Wars" describes the political
battle that was waged to restore wolves to Yellowstone. IMHO, it's
a very good read.
