Clearwater River, North Central Idaho

The Clearwater River near Lapwai, Idaho |
|
The Clearwater River is a very large river draining much of North Central Idaho. It has three major tributaries, the North Fork, South Fork and Middle Fork of the Clearwater. Each is an important stream in itself, with important tributaries such as the Lochsa and Selway Rivers, Weitas Creek, and Kelly Creek. The Clearwater River merges with the Snake River at Lewiston, Idaho/Clarkston, Washington. This point is now under the pool of the Lower Granite Dam, one of four pork barrel dams built on the lower Snake River in Washington. They have devastated the runs of salmon and steelhead trout and generated meager economic returns. The Clearwater Country is home to a great variety of wildlife and numerous wolf packs. . |
