Pioneer Mountains, South Central Idaho

Hyndman Peak (left) in the Pioneer Mountains, the second highest mountain range of Idaho.

This rugged range, particularly its east-facing flank became  the home of the Wildhorse wolf pack in 1999, but the pack broke apart in the summer of 2002.

The Pioneer Mountains rise just to the SE of Sun Valley, Idaho. They would be some of the best mountains of the West were it not for a great excess of livestock.
