Hello Cyberwolves
WS Day 24 @ Yellowstone Nat'l Park:
The wolves were very quiet today. Rob and I had them in sight most of the day but because they had made a kill last night they didn't seem all that interested in moving much. The dominant female #40F led another charge against some coyotes again but nothing came out of it. In the middle afternoon a pup was seen chasing some elk but we couldn't see much of what happened due to the rolling terrain. Unlike yesterday when the wolves were very energetic even though they didn't travel much (until the afternoon) today they didn't seem to have much energy at all. The only real interactions between the pack members that I saw occurred just after the coyote chase when #42F and #105F pinned down #103F. That and some tail wagging as the wolves fed on the elk carcass.
The most notable event of the day was the weather: another clear day but by far the coldest as the mercury dipped down to fourteen below. For those of you who are sun-belt fans, I know this sounds hard to believe but I feet so alive in the cold. That kind of cold feels so invigorating to me. I'm not consumed by the cold but rather awakened by it.
Oh, for those of you who may be keeping track of such trivia - today was the first day of the Winter Study that the Druid Pack was north of the Road while in Lamar Valley. They were up on the ridge east of Rose Creek (the actual creek, not the wolf pack) that leads up to Druid Peak (the actual peak, not the wolf pack).
