More news: necropsy shows Teton Pack alpha female was not killed by her own pack last winter
As Mike Jimenez suspected the lone Green River Pack alpha female with her first pups (5), did not stay lonely with the 2 year old Teton Pack dispersers in the area. Jimenez reported that Teton Pack disperser 267M has joined hard pressed 237F who has been making her way in thick grizzly and cattle country on the northern slope area of the Wind River Mountains since the government shot her mate 162M on July 17 for killing cow calves.
237F was born to the Washakie Pack. The late 162M was a Rose Creek disperser.
Jimenez warned that there are still cattle in the area, but not right on top of the den site. 237 has been among the cattle, but has not made any aggressive moves toward them. Teton Pack disperser 267M is a two years old. I believe that 237F is 3 or 4 years old.
In another nearby story, it turns out that the late alpha female of the Teton Pack 200F was not killed by other pack members in rivalry similar to 40F and 42F in the Druid Pack. Folks may recall 200F was found dead late last April with many bite marks. She was also lactating, suggesting her second litter of pups. Pack member 228M quickly took over the den site. Six new pups were eventually counted in the pack. It looked like a coup, but the necropsy showed 200F had badly infected mammary glands and would have been unable to nurse her pups. She presumably died of the infection. The lab could not determine whether wolves or other animals caused her puncture wounds.
