White Cloud alpha female relocated. Twin Peaks alpha pair located too.

July 31, 2000

After they were thought to have been lost both the White Clouds alpha female, no. 36F and the Twin Peaks Pack alpha pair have been relocated after extensive searching.

No. 36F had at least two pups with here and it was suspected that the Twin Peaks Pack alpha pair had pups too.

Number 36F was located about two weeks ago near Lost Trail Pass with two pups. Her two packmates that were also  relocated to north central Idaho were in the Big Hole Valley of SW Montana, but not together and about 8-10 miles from no. 36. Since then the Lost Trail Pass has caught on fire, so she has probably moved. Is she heading back to her home territory as did her mate, only to be killed by mistake? Perhaps, but the intensive fire and fire fighting activity near Salmon and Lost Trail Pass on the Idaho/Montana border may have prevented this.

Twin Peaks pair B18M and B35F were found about ten miles south of Anaconda, Montana. They had been relocated to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness of north central Idaho.

If these wolves remain in SW Montana, they will be the first wolves that will have successfully made the area home. There is lots of wolf habitat in SW Montana, and very few people, but there are lots of ranchers.
